The downpour began during a video call I should have rescheduled. I muted myself and watched water sheet down the window facing Ann Siang Hill.

Renewed the library card

The branch near Chinatown still uses the same stamp pad I remember from childhood visits with my mother. She would let me choose three books and negotiate for a fourth if I promised to finish the others first.

After the night market

Friend visited from Kuala Lumpur. We ate too much at the night market near Chinatown — oyster omelette, satay, something wrapped in banana leaf that we forgot to ask the name of.
